Does "Christmas" have its roots in Christ?

Since we as a nation and many other countries are "celebrating" this time of year, I have been compelled to search this matter out for myself. Having grown up in a tradition of "Christmas" and the idea that it is suppose to be the celebration of Jesus' birth, it seems to be the norm and "Ok". However, upon careful consideration and study, scrutiny and searching - the holiday of Christmas does not have its roots in life and ministry of Jesus Christ. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Suffice it to say, that in our modern times, the multitudes that celebrate this time of year, is more about US instead of Him. The origins of Christmas, and all its trappings come from several different pagan celebrations - even the birth of Christ Himself, nowhere in scripture is the date provided.

While I think God honors the faith and intent of those who have not searched the matter out for themselves, choosing to remain ignorant of the origins of their faith, choosing instead to follow the masses in the tradition of man - God is compelling me to get to the root of the matter, in many matters for my own spiritual growth and development. I honestly have been convicted more and more that this celebration as are many others, a mockery to God and what He intended. The traditions of men have been carried out for centuries - and most if not all have their roots in pagan rituals, festivals, etc. This may or may not interest anyone, but I think its important for us to know what God desires, instead of what we desire.

I make no apologies for this position that I take now that I have studied and researched, and praying about.. that God, the Holy Spirit, who (not men or women or false doctrine) leads us into ALL truth!

Jeremiah 10: 2-4 "Thus sayeth the Lord, learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.  For the customs of the people are vain, for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman,  with the axe.  They deck it with silver and gold, they fasten with nails and hammers, that it move not."
