As the drive would have it... today just to the post office for work and back. I saw a certain store downtown that had "Vintage" in its name. He caused me to ponder on that word "Vintage" - its relative to a time and place, most often of long ago, sometimes akin to a specific year of wine, but mostly associated with something authentic to a particular period. The reality of what was in the store, was most likely something that resembled a "vintage" piece of furniture, painting, trinket or treasure. The look, the feel, the flavor ... but in reality..something new made to look old.
Thats sorta what the world is today, thats how we perceive and want truth delivered to us. The flavor of, the scent, the idea. But never the full unadulterated, truth. Its to much for us, we don't have the strength to carry its weight and we prefer the look a-like, we can't afford the real thing or so we think (He already paid the price and gave Himself) much more comprehend it. Its to powerful, and bitter even. The world and most in it can't handle the truth, because we live in a lie most days, going to and fro, telling each other or listening to something akin to the truth, but polluted with a lie, with a little leaven and most days we don't even know it.
We have passed down this "flavor" generation after generation, never coming to the full knowledge and experience of it all. We will always be subject to a lie if we never seek the truth.
The truth ironically, is "vintage".... but as real and true today as it was 2000 years ago.
But its been mixed with so many flavors, only the one who has been taught by Him will ever come to find it, He is the way the truth and the life. We love the flavor, the scent, the idea - but never want the whole truth, its to much for us.
Its to uncomfortable, it upsets our man made ideals and doctrines, it sets us apart and divides. It makes us an outcast in a world full of inclusiveness, acceptance and tolerance, but mostly willful ignorance.
And He reminds me again:
Luke 12:51 "Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth, no I tell you, rather division.
Matthew 10:34 "Do not assume that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword."
and the sword is the sword of His Spirit, the Word of God.
Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Its the Truth that sets us free, not the flavor, the scent, the idea...
John 8:31-32 So He said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples. 32Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
