The degree of personal pain coming can be determined by the degree of attachment held for the things being recycled. Some people are neck deep in dogma and cant and couldn’t bear the thought that their whored out doctrines are going to be replaced with new living creeds and a rearrangement of the archetypes. A lot of people have their own identity knitted up with that of the tradition they worship in. It’s an extension of their ego and a guarantee that they are right and everyone else is wrong. They can’t seem to accept that there’s only one deity and that it is the same one in every religion and that the prophets and saviors were all extensions of the same eternal personality, manifesting in different ways to adjust to the cultures and mores that it appears in.

Out in the quiet of the countryside you can hear the whistle of the train from a long way off. Sooner or later the train is going to pull into the station and no one should be surprised when that happens. People frothing at the mouth with scripture would be well advised to consider that scripture has a living source and that words are without power unless there is a connection to the power that makes them ring. Finding the source and seat of that power is the preeminent concern. Anything else is a waste of time and that is going to be proven in spades.

Fortunate Turn of Events

Just a quick update - separated from my job in June - not such a great suprise, a little shocking, but alas I am able to continue working with a great company and travel.

The first few months of 2010 proved to be full of disappointment, some self inflicted others not. But having crossed over with new focus, determination and financial health - I am thankful. Thankful for all those situations, and circumstances that lead me to this point.

Its so easy to get caught up in the moment, in the details, losing faith even, to know it all works out, it all makes sense at the end of the day, week, month, year - when it didn't make sense in the begining. It reminds me of the story of being lost in the wildnerness - if only those people could have risen up above the trees revealing the way out, a clearing... a place that represented peace...but they had to go through it... you know?

Over the past few flights, some very long,I took time to look outside as we flew up into the clouds above all the hustle and bustle down below and how peaceful it was. It's beautiful up there..its hard to imagine below it all wars are waged, people are dieing, suicide is being committed, divorces are happening, terminal diagnosis are being handed out and corruption seems to be spreading like a plague creeping across the planet. But I also realized, there were babies being born, marriages were taking place, reunions were happening, reconcilation and somewhere over the vast land, someone was sitting on their front porch having nice conversation over a glass of ice tea - fellowship. People were falling in love. How small can you feel, but then how important to know this was all ours, our planet - for us.

I am thankful.

If you haven't read the near death experience posts, please do. You can find the link to the left on the sidebar titled "Near Death Experience". I wanted to repost an excerpt from an article detailing advances in science and health.

"The sound of light: Innovative technology shatters the barriers of modern light microscopy
June 30, 2009 In the past, even modern technologies have failed to produce high-resolution fluorescence images from this depth because of the strong scattering of light. In the Nature Photonics journal, the Munich researchers describe how they can reveal genetic expression within live fly larvae and fish by "listening to light". In the future this technology may facilitate the examination of tumors or coronary vessels in humans.

Since the dawn of the microscope scientists have been using light to scrutinize thin sections of tissue to ascertain whether they are healthy or diseased or to investigate cell function. However, the penetration limits for this kind of examination lie between half a millimeter and one millimeter of tissue. In thicker layers light is diffused so strongly that all useful details are obscured.

Together with his research team, Professor Vasilis Ntziachristos, director of the Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging of the Helmholtz Zentrum München - German Research Center for Environmental Health and chair for biological imaging at the Technische Universität München, has now broken through this barrier and rendered three-dimensional images through at least six millimeters of tissue, allowing whole-body visualization of adult zebra fish.

To achieve this feat, Prof. Ntziachristos and his team made light audible. They illuminated the fish from multiple angles using flashes of laser light that are absorbed by fluorescent pigments in the tissue of the genetically modified fish. The fluorescent pigments absorb the light, a process that causes slight local increases temperature, which in turn result in tiny local volume expansions. This happens very quickly and creates small shock waves. In effect, the short laser pulse gives rise to an ultrasound wave that the researchers pick up with an ultrasound microphone.

The real power of the technique, however, lies in specially developed mathematical formulas used to analyze the resulting acoustic patterns. An attached computer uses these formulas to evaluate and interpret the specific distortions caused by scales, muscles, bones and internal organs to generate a three-dimensional image.

The result of this "multi-spectral opto-acoustic tomography", or MSOT, is an image with a striking spatial resolution better than 40 micrometers (four hundredths of a millimeter). And best of all, the sedated fish wakes up and recovers without harm following the procedure.

A little under the weather, but decided to go to Green Sage downtown, to be a little productive. Productivity wouldn't be appropriate without an update to the blog. Some people see integrity as the quality of having a sense of honesty and truthfulness in regard to the motivations for one's actions. Some people use the term "hypocrisy" in contrast to integrity for asserting that one part of a value system demonstrably conflicts with another, and to demand that the parties holding apparently conflicting values account for the discrepancy or change their beliefs to improve internal consistency (seen as a virtue).

The etymology of the word "integrity" can suggest insight into its use and meaning. It stems from the Latin adjective integer (whole, complete). In this context, integrity may comprise the personal inner sense of "wholeness" deriving from (say) honesty and consistency of character. As such, one may judge that others "have integrity" to the extent that one judges whether they behave according to the values, beliefs and principles they claim to hold.

I want to go up high in the mountains early in the morning just as the sun is peaking over the horizon and lay down in the clouds. Submerge myself in the mist and listen as the world comes alive. Those last few calls of the whippoorwill, and the crickets....as they bid their elusive mates goodbye. I want to watch the sun lift that blanket of fog up to the heavens and let her rays shine down on me, watching that sweet dew evaporate away.

I want to listen to the wind pick herself up and watch as she makes her way down the ravine and into the valleys, as the trees bow and their leaves flitter at her touch.

I want the cool air to fill my lungs as I take in the strong perfume of the neighboring firs, and the crisp clean scent of the earth. I want to be, to lie there and feel the pulse of the earth vibrating beneath me, and become a part of it's energy, and just be.

I want to hear his thunderous voice in the wind and the rustling of the leaves, and the roar as she forces herself over the meadow and a billion blades of grass. I want to hear the song, the one you can only hear when there is silence and awareness. When my thoughts cease to move and there is stillness.

The Dividing Truth

I haven't posted in a while, but feel inspired today. I am always searching for the Truth of a matter, sometimes at high costs, sometimes at the defeat of my own ego or emotions. I have experienced this before at varying levels, but I think I have really experienced the reality that Truth surely divides.

The truth is not the subject of popular appeal. It never has been. It never will be. Multitudes will never flock to a stadium to hear the truth. Truth divides.

It is better to be divided by truth than united in error. It is better to speak the truth that hurts and, then heals, than falsehood that comforts, then kills. It is not love, and it is not friendship if we fail to declare the whole counsel of God. It is better to be hated for telling the truth than to be loved for telling the lie. It is impossible to find, in the Bible, anyone who stood with God and His truth who did not have enemies and was not hated. It is better to stand alone with the truth than to be wrong with the multitude. It is better to succeed, ultimately, with the truth than to succeed, temporarily, with the lie.

Even the lies we tell ourselves and brand our brains with, searing our consciousness into believing even for years, a lie.

There are truths, that I know now, are better left unsaid, they are our own, they are so piercing so life changing, that to experience them and come to the knowledge of them in our hearts and minds, means we can never turn back. We are changed. Truth is revelation.

The division may be between people, places or things, it may be the revelation between right and wrong - but in most cases it is a division between what the ego wants, and what the spirit declares is true. The death of any part of us, be it ego, or some say self or the death of old ideas, hopes and dreams, is painful. Very painful. It is as if we betray ourselves, believing a lie for what seems a lifetime, and then coming into the revelation that in fact what we have believed all this time, is in fact falsehood. It rips you apart.

Betrayal of ourselves must be worse than that of a lover or friend. A confidante or mentor.

Truth comes on different levels - like the the truth that I have a job, but decribing all the details and intricate workings of my day to day activites, is a greater truth, bring greater revelation and understanding about my job. Likewise, when we start scrutinizing ourselves closely, and monitoring our thoughts and actions, the greater revelation prevents us from living under a veil any longer. Its a tough revelation, one that forever changes us, preventing us from regressing. It severs connections, and old paradigms. Light shines in places we never hoped it would, but there it is clear and concise. Bringing everything into clear focus without question.

Do we share what we see, or do we keep it to ourselves? Do we dispell the notions, the idealogy, or do we just live with it, the Truth? It makes me think of the saying "every action has an equal and opposite reaction".. Truth sets us free, but moves into a different level of captivity. We walk through one door, only to find ourselves facing another.

I have to say that by posting what I am about to post, in no way means that I do not think the Swine Flu isn't or is a real threat to anyone. However, I will say that in comparison to the already available data on regular flu strains - anyone who is fearful of what the media is portraying as a threat... needs to do some research and stop eating up the obvious BULL, that is being fed to you.

The CDC, Centers for Disease Control posts all the stats associated with flu related deaths.

It is absolutely ridiculous that Obama and his administration is pledging so much of your tax money to fight this potential "pandemic" when averaged out, 7 people die every single hour of regular flu and pneumonia combined.... the same flu that it seems we dont have enough money or time to generate enough vaccines each year to combat... remember????

I just saw on the local news where a school is closing down starting today and through Monday for probable swine flu cases in SC.. Now this may be a good idea, but what logic is there behind it... when you look at the 20,000 deaths related to more ccmmon strains of influenza, that occur each and every year according to 2001 data. An excerpt "In the United States, approximately 25 percent of the population has flu-associated illness annually, leading to an average of 20,000 to 40,000 deaths per year".

Put your own brain to work and do your own research, unless you want to be controlled by the propaganda that you so readily gobble up...

Hello friends and extended family,

I know of a glass blower who gets up every morning in the dark to do his work. Before the world wakes up, before the phone starts ringing, in the sacred remains of the night when all is still, he gathers and begins to fuse his raw materials: the breath from his lungs, glowing flame, imagination, dogged hope.

I used to work from the other direction. I loved the feeling of still being up after the rest of the city (and world) had grown sleepy, the light of a lamp making my third story bedroom windows glow while I leaned over my desk and sailed towards something I couldn't name.

Someone sent me this little excerpt awhile back, in a beautiful letter of encouragement I should add, the sort of letter that makes everything slow down, hold still:

I'd really be okay with this being my epitaph.

When I was younger I would often write myself short job descriptions. I was thinking out loud about what might be worth hanging a life on, a life I was willing to sign my name to:

Create spaces where good things can happen.

Give the world something beautiful, some gift of gratitude,
no matter how insignificant or small.

Write love letters to the whole world.

Build fires outdoors, and lift a glass and tell stories,
and listen, and laugh, laugh, laugh. (Karin says I'm still working

Early Girl Eatery

When you visit Asheville, please take the time to head downtown to Wall Street and stop off at Early Girl Eatery. This is my favorite place to have breakfast on Saturday mornings.

They have the best homemade pumpkin bread, served warm with real butter - literally melts in your mouth! Then try the sweet potato scramble with chunks of sweet potato, chives, local sausage and a side of double cut bacon and wheat toast, you can't go wrong!

NC Arboretum

Just a quick note to mention my trip to the NC Arboretum at Asheville this past weekend. Not much to see considering its still a bit to early, but I did enjoy the bat exhibit and walking along some of the trails, snapping some photos of the bonsai that were left on exhibit (most were being stored away for the winter). This picture is of a Crocus in bloom, the bonsai pics are posted on my facebook page if you are interested.

Seems like a nice place to spend the afternoon if you want to relax and just chill. I will head back when everything starts to bloom and turns green. It was almost 80 degrees a huge contrast to the snow we had last weekend.

Moving to Asheville and getting settled has robbed me of time to reflect, at least reflect and share it.

In the mornings when I am on the way to work and dodge wild turkeys and make my way to the Smokey Park Hwy and I look off in the distance and see the mountains rising up high into the clouds, I am still amazed at such beauty. I am humbled to think that my creator has surrounded me with such amazing beauty. I feel like a kid a few weeks before Christmas anticipating the change of seasons. As I drive west and look up to the highest peaks and see snow, its like opening up another package.

I can hardly wait to see spring, bringing everything to life and of course put my camera to use again.

This is a special place, it has been sacred to me since I can remember. My first trip through this area happened many years ago with my family. I remember my mom (having never really been to the mountains) became fearful at what she thought were huge and dark thunder clouds. She use to have an unusual fear of storms - I am thinking back now and realizing it was probably due to the fact we had experienced a tornado through our subdivision in the past. Needless say my dad calmed her nerves and as we progressed through the mountains she also must have been in awe.

I can't imagine what is next. I am so blessed to work with such a great group of people, I feel like I am making a difference and thats all that really matters to me.

I am not sure I will ever leave this area. I wish my family was here with me, but we all have our lives to live, and for the first time in a long time, I feel like I am living mine, rather than just existing in it.

The Lake

I haven't posted as much as I thought but getting settled into a new home and job, not to mention catching up on school has a way of stealing all your time. However, I did manage to go out this past weekend for a short while and snap up some photos of the lake, Enka Lake to be exact.
The community I live in is called Biltmore Lake, but the lake itself, is Enka lake to all the natives and long time residents of this area. It's a beautiful place and I can hardly wait until spring/summer to see it come alive with green and take some of the boats out for a lazy drift along the water.

Arghhhh, the holiday rush is upon me and I have done some last minute shopping...navigating between crying babies, determined soccer moms and guys who look puzzled when holding up a woman's blouse.

Needless to say its done, its done!!! Now I have to spend the next hour or two wrapping everything possibly loading the car down for an early morning departure for a 4 hr trek east to my home town, Kinston, NC.

I have been very busy lately. I was offered a job near Asheville NC and I can hardly wait to get this move over. So between work, school, packing and the holidays this must be the busiest I have been in quite some time.

I hope I will be adding more to the blog now that I get to live in the place I have always dreamed of living since I was a kid. I anticipate much more inspiration, peace, innovative thinking, a spark of creativity and simply just enjoying what I consider heaven on earth in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western, NC.

So as you can probably tell from some of the posts on this blog I am an avid fan of the mountains of western NC and more specifically Asheville, NC.

I have wanted to live in this general area for as long as I can remember and now I am being given the chance... I have recently been offered a position near the area and will be (hopefully) renting a beautiful home in the Biltmore Lake area.

I have much to get done over the next 30 days, but suffice it to say I am excited. I can hardly imagine seeing the mountains every day on my way back and forth to work and all the wonderful activities I might engage in over the weekends... I think its a dream come true and I hope and pray the job pans out to be something I enjoy and am very successful in...

I have recently shared this website address with many others and I wanted to say that I especially hope no one finds it offensive. I, like everyone else, have an opinion, am not the authority on anything under the sun, and just like everyone else have something to say.

I have no goal or agenda in sharing things here, other than to voice my opinion, thoughts, ideas, etc... to share with family and friends and possibly enlighten others especially when it comes to Near Death Experiences. While I don't have much posted here about that subject, much of what is written has been highly influenced and in some way connected to this experience, and how it continues to shape my life and perceptions.

I am a peaceable guy, and respect and admire even, other's viewpoints, interests, and ideas about most anything.

With that said, enjoy the reading if you have taken the time and write to me if you'd like to comment.

Omnipod Insuliln Delivery

I don't think I could have let the day go by without saying something about a new insulin delivery system I am starting. Today was the first "official" day of using the Omnipod system, with real insulin. I had been using it with sterile saline. Its a little complicated at first because you have to figure out what your basal rate is, which is the rate of insulin you will have delivered around the clock. Initially my doctor and diabetic educator are starting me off slow with higher than normal blood glucose levels to help avoid having any lows. The pod itself is controlled by a PDM (Personal Diabetic Manager device) really a PDA. It operates wirelessly and tubelessly... You can go to this video link to see a demonstration on youtube.

Joy, my educator has been so nice, and just called to check on me and it's a little after 9pm. Who could ask for better care? She will continue to check on me over the next few days until we get the basal rate right and are fairly certain I will avoid having any lows.

Anyone who is contemplating going on an insulin pump, should really consider the Omnipod, its fairly easy to set up, use, and you can build so much into the PDM including temporary basal rates, deliver bolus doses of insulin, it has a built in glucometer and the best thing is you can virtually do away with your syringes and injecting yourself 4-5 times a day. I anticipate that it will help me manage my blood glucose levels better and ultimately provide a longer and better quality of life!

$700 Billion Bailout?

It's not often I post my opinion about much going on in the world, because I steer away from most political discussions or politically driven situations, etc. However, I am very concerned as I watched and listened to President Bush this evening discuss this potential $700 billion bailout plan proposed to congress. What I hear is that we have been gluttonous consumers living beyond our means and making other's rich, filthy, disgustingly rich because of it. Surely the price we have paid is much greater than the balance on our mortgages, or auto loans. I think about our freedom, and wonder what other rights we have handed over during the last several years of what many thought was "prosperity"... In the morning I drive by a very large patch of brown, dead grass amid lush green, manicured and meticulously managed landscaping in the median no doubt. South Charlotte, a beautiful place to live and be, if you are wealthy. There stands a sign in the midst of the dead grass that says "Turf renovation in progress"... and not far down the street another sign that says something to the effect that the water used for irrigation of the lawn comes from a private supply. On my way home this afternoon I passed 4 fuel stations all without fuel, and finally the one I found was jam packed with motorists waiting to fill their cars.

Do you honestly think if the government forks over $700 billion dollars to bail out this economy, there isn't a price to pay? As if we haven't already paid - considering this money is the money they have taken from the hours we have labored day in an day out... the money use to fund program healthcare programs, pay for illegal immigrant services, etc, etc.

Who will you answer to when the government in every sense of the word "owns" your home?

Maybe a complete financial collapse would be a good thing, and no longer will we be so concerned over the "turf" that needs "renovating" - if people lost their jobs, would it make us turn to family again like it was in days gone by, would people pull their resources together, open their hearts and homes again and really understand what a hard day's work is really about? Would we learn to live without all the toys we have so feverishly coveted, purchased, and wasted our time and energy on... would we finally realize what's important?

I hardly think its a good idea. And I hardly think the American people, myself included will benefit it from it at all.

Weekend with Family and Friends

I decided to head home this weekend to visit family and take care of a few things with a home I own in Greenville.

The day yesterday was spent driving from Charlotte and a short layover in Raleigh to have lunch with a good friend. It was nice. Then I met my dad and his wife for dinner and called it a day/night.

This morning I was up and met Tiffany for brunch at IHOP and headed over to the house to check out a few things and speak to the tenants... I just put the home on the market and hope to have it sold before the end of November.

Anyway, thats the latest. My dad being the comedian he is, joked about taking a picture of his big toe and this is what I ended up with...

Tribute to "Nell" with Jodie Foster

This clip from the movie "Nell" is one of my favorite scenes, in fact this movie is one of my favorites. Ever since the NDLE, I find myself drawn to certain books, places, people, and movies. With each one there seems to be a pivotal point, scene or just basic truth that lights up in my brain and it confirms or affirms why I was drawn to it. Sometimes its just a sentence, or word or overall theme. The court room scene shown here is one of those "truths" and ultimately why I know I had to see it. Other times I may have a dream and a word or idea appears in big glowing and bright letters as if to draw my attention to it's meaning. The last time I had a dream like this the word "Quigong" showed up. I never knew what this word was and interestingly enough a video I had ordered a few days prior to the dream, arrived and there was a section of the video/documentary that talked about Quigong. Needless to say I have much to learn about it. Enjoy the clip.

Reconnecting

This is for Kelly... Thanks to Kelly we have reconnected through classmates.com and shared a few stories here and there. Fortunately through this I was also able to reconnect with Pam, who I lost touch with after I moved here.

There is something that warms the heart when you reconnect with old friends from a life that seems so long ago at times. Not only that, memories that were just before fading away to be lost forever somewhere in the untapped and neglected part of our brains, are restored, revived and reestablished.

July 4th in Western NC

I was needing a break from the busy and very hectic schedule I have been experiencing lately with school and work. I needed to get away, refocus, re-energize, renew.

So on the morning of July 4th, I got up packed my clothes, made sure the cats had plenty of food and water and headed north, then west. As soon as I got in the car and made my way onto the interstate, I felt the excitement I hadn't felt in a long time. It was freedom and anticipation of going to a place in western NC, that I feel is sacred, at least to me. Completely alone with myself, and the music I had planned for the trip.

Arriving 3 hrs later, I drove around downtown Asheville and thought about places to stay. I really wanted a secluded cabin, but considering my last minute plans I soon realized that wasn't going to happen. So I stayed at the Sheraton, just a few blocks from Pak Place. $189 a night, it was ok to splurge a little.

I checked in, explored downtown, had a very late lunch at the local Irish Pub, watched people, listend to the street musicians and just relaxed. The crowd began to really gather and I decided to drive around some more.

Rather than go into a lengthy detail of the trip, I will just say it was well worth the trip. Getting up early the next morning to drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, site see and take alot of pictures.

I headed back home that night taking a different route through Greenville, SC.

A Day in the Life

I haven't posted for a while. Work has been crazy, demanding, tiring and everything else you can think of that would describe a hectic environment.

Needless to say inspiration doesn't come easily as we are tossed and turned with our jobs, personal obligations, having the car serviced, doing the laundry - alas that conveyor belt of life seems to move us along, question is where is it headed and whats the destination?

On the way home a few days ago, I did begin to have the idea for a new post, some of which I have touched on in the past, but I will save it for now. After just completing a assignment for a philosophy class and working feverishly to meet the deadline, while grasping a well rounded understanding of Plato's Doctrine of Ideas and transcendent forms, my own philosophical momentum is about out of energy.

I was digging up old stuff, from many, many years ago and came across a few things I decided to post here. Partially in an effort to save them, and also to remember.

This was written probably when I was in my mid to late twenties. I am 38 now. Interesting how life has changed.

Where is She Father?

Where is she Father? I know her face and the smell of her perfume. Her heart is like the sunrise, and her voice is like sweet music. Her eyes are beautiful and her heart searches. Have you hidden her for just a time? Or should this ache abide with me, and find me incomplete for many more days?

How long Lord, how long must this composition of my heart go unheard? Or could it be that my eyes fail to see? Does she stand before me and yet I look past her radiance and splendor? Perhaps she stands just out of view, just beyond the edge of this road you have purposed in my life.

I know she is there somewhere, my heart beats with hers and my tears are not in vain - she is alive!
When will she come? When, oh Lord shall I find myself in her arms, listening to her song? I know she must sing of me and she too, longs to be where I am.

Does my song have no purpose? Surely not, it is filled with fervent and eternal love. Is she like the seed slumbering beneath the earth, anticipating your warm breath to give her life at just the moment my feet should pass by her space in the meadow? Shall I find her in solitude in the secret place you have chosen, reflecting the most beautiful rays of your light?

Often times the winds carry her song to my lonely ears, and for a brief moment I feel her cheek next to my own. Or is she like the lonely whipporwill calling out, waiting patiently for my reply?

Weekend with Friends

Just a note to say I had a great weekend with visiting friends, seeing parts of the city I hadn't explored up until now.

It was refreshing. I met someone new, reconnected with someone from the past and spent some time with very special old friends.

Charlotte seems to be a great city. Being uptown and riding the lite rail, seeing all the nice condos etc, made me want to experience the city life. I live in the very southern part of Charlotte and its a bit of a ride to drive and find parking. The lite rail is very easy to get to and only takes 15 minutes to get into the heart of the city. It's great.

Come for a visit, Charlotte has quite a bit to offer!
